I think this book is a vast improvement upon the style used in the other famous work of science cultural anthropology, Laboratory Life, that I recently read. World of High Energy Physicists on your Kindle in under a minute.

I assume that this is some sort of anthropological or ethnographic practice – however, I’m not sure if this book should have been cast so heavily in the lidetimes mode of anthropology.

It isn’t, however, very heavy handed about the “why this matters” — it makes its points lightly a few times and mostly stays in the well-curated description so read it if you’re already curious, not if you want convincing that cultures of science matter.
