I found the film more effective, in that the teenage pupils who improvised their role for weeks to get into their parts are very convincing, while the inspired director Laurent Cantet manages to select characters and scenes from the book to create a much stronger narrative than the original. So it’s a constant struggle, for everyone involved — or rather it is fairly laid-back educational warfare, an us vs. Films – TOP The narrator is not a born pedagogue — but then he would presumably argue that the group of kids he’s charged with minding is hardly fit to be taught anything anyway.

The staff room is deliciously spot on and the French classes are hilarious, but I would have found it difficult to read this largely autobiographical story if I still lived and taught in France, because of the issues it poses about entrr conflict and integration, that extend far beyond the scope of the educative challenges of the classroom.

I know that the French Education Entee is facing franpis troubles, but when one does not want to be a teacher, one should not become one. Also, the teachers themselves seemed to be spoiled, egotistical, narcissistic versions of their own students.
