Thank you for all the replies. In general the gain will be less if you have it backwards, but for a switching application like yours, you may never notice! I was just speculating the base current might be pulling down your voltage source you could measure the base voltage to check for that.
And then the C was working also fine. Yes, I certainly did check many times. Maybe this will be lower at 5V, I can’t say for sure.

You can try with tgansistor general purpose transistor like 2N or BC My problem is related with my inability to fully saturate the power transistor i recycled from the old board, it’s a NPN transistor 2SC Sep 22, 7.
